Automatic cryogenic vacuum distillation water extraction system LI-2100
Studies analyzing the stable isotopes of water extracted from plants and soils have become routine in the ecological literature. In any given study, dozens to hundreds of water samples are acquired and analyzed because of the temporal and spatial variations that are typically observed in natural ecological systems. With recent advances in mass spectrometry, especial fast laser spectrometry for stable isotope analyzer, water extraction, rather than the isotopic analysis itself, is the bottleneck in sample processing.
Over the past four decades a variety of extraction techniques have been used. Of these methods, azeotropic distillation and vacuum distillation have been the most commonly employed. But for vacuum distillation method, it need add liquid nitrogen repeatedly during operation, complex and low success rate. Azeotropic distillation need to join expensive solvent, which is harmful to our health and pollute the environment. So developing a device which is easy use, operation simple and fully automatic, is the urgent requirement of current isotopes research.
LI-2100 Automatic cryogenic vacuum distillation water extraction system, overcomes the defect of traditional extraction technology. It continues to use cryogenic vacuum distillation principle, but highly modular and integrated. It uses as compressor refrigeration unit without liquid nitrogen, safe and simple. Batch processing samples, 14 samples can be extracted each process. Extraction process is fully automatic.
Principle
This equipment is mainly adopts the principle of cryogenic vacuum distillation. During vacuum distillation, water is evaporated from the sample and condensed in a collection tube. The isotopic signature of water condensing in the collection tube follows a Rayleigh distillation curve16 and, therefore, theoretically, the water extraction must proceed to completion to obtain an unfractionated water sample.
